A Question for Davidya: Mind vs Intellect for Inner Clarity

February 21, 2022

Dear David,

A quick question.

When experiencing direct, internal, expansiveness, there is simultaneously a voice in the head annotating the experience. When the fullness of fullness is met head on, and one becomes the fullness, the voice remains.

For example, the thought comes: “Wow, this is amazing” Or, “that’s golden light” as if stating in words the experience.

Is that the mind coming in? Or is this the Witness annotating from the Intellect?

Or, is it just a tether to ground the experience?

ANSWER from Davidya:

Intellect is what distinguishes – fullness from emptiness, for example.

Mind is what processes the senses, compares to prior experiences, and names things.

They work closely together – so often come together, except in very subtle experiences.

When Self is established, mind can be there even when very deep. This can happen even prior to awakening when some value of transcendence is established. We have thoughts about transcending while still transcending.

So yes, what you describe is mind. But mind that is quiet enough not to disturb the experience. Just impulses here and there rather than a barrage of commentary, complaints, and concerns.

I often have commentary even during profound experiences. Used to think that was an issue but it’s just the laws of nature here.

The intellect plays a key role in Unity as it becomes resolute and shifts from dividing to uniting. That is the Self, and that, etc.

My Repsonse to David:

What of attention? Where does it fall?

Just curious 🙂

David’s Response:

Attention is essentially the flow of consciousness in a specific direction. However, it depends on what level the attention is flowing from.

For example, attention flows within universal consciousness. The point value also attends things, often through the senses. Mind and intellect also can be vehicles of attention. Lorn calls the latter mind awareness.
